San Francisco Pedestrian Killed by Car

San Francisco Police have identified 68 year-old Tania Madfes as the pedestrian who was killed in the West Portal disctrict. According to her husband (who suffered minor leg injuries), the two of them had a green light and were walking in a crosswalk. More information this pedestrian accident is available here and here.

Under California law, a driver must yield the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. It appears that the driver in this case did not yield the right of way and was therefore negligent.

In this case it is especially tragic - she is described as a "A San Francisco woman who devoted her career to encouraging girls to pursue opportunities that had been denied to her." Our thoughts go out to her family and all the students she must have touched in her career.
