Alameda Sheriff's Deputy Strikes and Kills Pedestrian in Hayward

An Alameda County Sherrif's truck hit a man and woman crossing Mission Boulevard at Cherry Way in Hayward early this morning, killing the male pedestrian. The incident is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

The family of the pedestrian who passed away may have wrongful death claim against the Alameda County Sheriff's Department, depending on the facts of the incident. Which family members have standing to bring a wrongful death claim will be determined by the state's wrongful death statute.

This is the second fatal pedestrian accident on that stretch of Mission Boulevard. In January, a pedestrian was struck and killed at the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Lewelling Boulevard in Hayward.
