Pedestrian Injuries
According to NHTSA statistics, a
pedestrian is struck by a car roughly every 9 minutes. In the year 2009, there were 59,000
pedestrians injured by
cars or
trucks. Of those 59,000
pedestrian accidents, there were 4,092 pedestrian
fatalities. Of these fatalities, 6% were children under 14 years old.
Among injured bicyclists, 17% were under 14 years of age. The

While these numbers are better than they were a few years ago, they are still alarming. Think about the next time you spend 45 minutes doing something: 5 pedestrians died during that time.
