Toddler Injured in Hit and Run Accident

A San Francisco toddler was injured in a hit-and-run accident yesterday evening in the city's Oceanview neighborhood. According to a report on KTVU.com, the child had just exited the car (on the driver's side) when he was hit by a passing motorist. The motorist stopped momentarily and then fled.
The toddler was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family - I can not imagine their horror and anguish.
In a case like this, the minor may be able to recover for his injuries if the car in which he was a passenger (or his mother's car) has uninsured motorist coverage. I wrote about the need for uninsured motorist coverage on my very fist blog posting on this blog, and it is a topic I could write about all day. I recently had an entire family come in to my office, who had been hit by a truck while crossing the street. The other driver had no insurance and the family had just canceled their uninsured motorist coverage. The end result is that they were not able to recover, despite some very serious injuries and lost wages claims.
