What Should I Do After A Car Accident? Oakland Personal Injury Attorney

If you have been in a car accident, there are a few things you should do right away.

  1. Seek medical attention.  Pain and soreness often do not show up until the next day, or even the next week.  It is essential that you see a doctor right away so you can determine whether you are injured and, if so, start treatment.  But what if I do not have health insurance you ask?  Look at this post.
  2. Take photos of any bruises, scars, etc.  Keep a journal of how you are feeling - what hurts, what helps, etc.
  3. Keep all of your receipts.  This includes emergency room receipts, pharmacy receipts, receipts for parking at the hospital, and the like.
  4. Keep careful track of all the time you miss from work.  Alter the human resources department that you were in a car accident and that you need to keep track of all the time you have missed from work.
  5. Contact an experienced personal injury attorney.
  6. It is a good idea to refrain from giving a recorded statement to the insurance company until you have at least spoken with a personal injury attorney.

I see quite a few car accident cases in Oakland.  Most of the time the client has failed to do at least one of these things, which can be overcome.  But if you fail to get medical attention, fail to keep your receipts, etc., the chances that you will recover are diminished.  If you have been in a car accident, contact me.
